In an effort to achieve its goal of global benchmarking, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (Nift) has made essential modifications in its curriculum. Nift has also opened its new international affairs office in New Delhi.

The institute has signed a memorandum of understanding with leading fashion institutes of the world, wherein the Indian students can go abroad to have a peep into the latest in the global fashion industry. Under the exchange programme, foreign fashion students can visit India to explore traditional Indian crafts.

“The exchange has not been limited to students, but has reached faculty, research and cultural levels,” an institute official said, adding,”We provide visitors an opportunity to have a feel of the Indian rural sensitivities.” The purpose of the exchange programme is to support the small and medium clusters. The visiting delegates will be sent to these clusters so that they could be acquainted with traditional designs.

The institute is working in six clusters, wherein artisans are being provided state-of-the-art training.Nift has been successful in professionalising contemporary art, which has helped the country earn considerable foreign exchange and provide rural employment opportunities.
